11/23/2008 - Ben Sollee

Ben Sollee is a classically trained cellist, singer and songwriter who has incorporated banjo, guitar, percussion, and other unusual techniques to create a musical style uniquely his own. His music is said to be a mix of folk, bluegrass, jazz and R&B. Raised in Louisville, KY, he began playing the cello in elementary school. He's a member of the Sparrow Quartet and has worked on the radio program Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour. In 2007 he was named one of NPRs Top Ten Unknown Artists of the Year and in 2008 he was featured on the PBS series On Canvas, recorded at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia. In May 2008, Ben released his first EP If Youre Gonna Lead My Country and a month later released his debut album Learning to Bend through SonaBLAST! Records. He is currently touring both solo and with the Sparrow Quartet.
